Evaluating naturalness and functioning of urban green infrastructure

چکیده
Evaluating the state of urban green infrastructure (UGI) is a basic step to reach sustainability. Two indicators were used evaluate 89 UGI sites in Zaragoza, medium-sized city NE Spain: Naturalness (Nat), related area covered by natural components; Functioning (Fun), showing hydro-geomorphological features. Complementarily, 15 biophysical and social variables characterize these sites. A principal component analysis (PCA) was performed group types UGI, while linear regressions ANOVAs applied identify relationships between characteristics, Nat Fun. The Zaragoza dominated artificial regular Most (73%) have low-medium values They mostly flat parks with very forms located most densely urbanized zones, 20% high Fun, corresponding well-conserved areas, either unchanged or slightly transformed. Only 3 displayed low Fun values. No had These groups distributed along first axis PCA which represented heterogeneous versus regularity flatness scattered throughout second gradient from paved vegetated Both positively correlated area, subsoil vegetation but negatively soil, after ANOVAs. results show that are effective assess Minimizing design, preserving topological relief, restricting components suggested achieve balanced representation ecosystem processes, functions, services within network city.

Financing Green Urban Infrastructure
This paper presents an overview of practices and challenges related to financing green sustainable cities. Cities are essential actors in stimulating green infrastructure; and urban finance is one of the promising ways in which this can be achieved. Cities are key investors in infrastructure with green potential, such as buildings, transport, water and waste. Their main revenue sources, such as...
متن کاملAir temperature regulation by urban trees and green infrastructure
A well-known effect of urbanisation is the warming of the local climate relative to surrounding rural areas, creating a phenomenon known as the ‘urban heat island’ (UHI). UHI intensity varies across a city and over time, but temperature differences may reach 9 °C in the UK. Factors that contribute to a UHI include the thermal properties, height and spacing of buildings, the production of waste ...
متن کاملAgent-based Modeling of Urban Tropical Green Infrastructure Investment
Alam Cipta Vol 6 (1) June 2013 ABSTRACT This document describes a conceptual methodology to investigate the dynamics of “bottom-up” green infrastructure (GI) investment in tropical urban areas. This approach seeks to develop a methodology of study to understand what policies may lead to more efficient investment policies that lead to a sustainable urban setting. Agent-based Modeling (ABM) was u...
متن کاملurban green infrastructure assessment for their regeneration in tehran landscape
introduction “green infrastructure” is a term that describes the abundance and distribution of natural features providing ecological services necessary for community wellbeing specially in urban areas where these are limited. green infrastructure is increasingly espoused by landscape conservation and metropolitan planning because it is an effective way to surrogate ecological network functions ...
متن کاملMaking green infrastructure healthier infrastructure
Increasing urban green and blue structure is often pointed out to be critical for sustainable development and climate change adaptation, which has led to the rapid expansion of greening activities in cities throughout the world. This process is likely to have a direct impact on the citizens' quality of life and public health. However, alongside numerous benefits, green and blue infrastructure a...
